July 10-12 , 2009
Las Vegas, Nevada

If you are looking for a small, personable gathering of friendly
slash (boys liking other boys) fans, Con*Strict could be the convention for you!
Our main focus is programming and social interaction, and we average
35-40 people with our limit set at 50(ish). There is no real dealer's room
or art show (but we do have stuff to buy, including new zines).
We produce a commemorative con zine that is always looking for
contributors, and we also have a vid show, if you're so inclined.

Disclaimer:

This website and the convention includes discussion and depiction of homosexual behavior. You must be over 18 years-of-age to attend this event. Please see our FAQ page for more information.

Programming:

Early Check-In -- Thursday

Because so many folks come in early, Registration will be open in the Hospitality Suite (Topaz Suite in building two) late afternoon. A group dinner offsite is likely to be planned. Additionally, since this year is the 10th anniversary of Star Wars The Phantom Menace, and because that's the fandom in which so many of us first met, we will be having a showing of the movie Thursday evening after dinner. Some snarking will likely be tolerated, but if you really don't like the movie, you might want to skip it as this is not a "MST3K"-type event. Many of us still have a great love for 50 or so minutes of this movie ;)

Meet & Greet Reception, Party Games and Vid Show -- Friday

Make new friends, get reacquainted with old friends, sneer at your rivals. Most of you are used to this by now, and as far as I know, Emu is still our party hostess. There will be cake and frivolity, then the Vid Show which is usually focused on specific interests of the group and hosts a steadily increasing number of offerings from con-goers along with some of the best of the web.

Saturday Night at the Movies

In years past, it was all of us, but now it's generally smaller groups, with some staying behind for conversation or bad movies in the programming room. If you have an idea for the 'bad' movie, feel free to submit your suggestion(s), and seeking out stuff like Boa vs. Python or Shark 3 since they star some of our favorites, and will likely get a better vote. If you were really ambitious and just made highlight reels of our guys instead of forcing folks to watch the whole damn thing(s), we could get more bang for our buck and more opportunities for squeeing and groaning.

Panel Programming

I would imagine there is some interest in Merlin, plus our standards: Supernatural, Stargate: Atlantis, Torchwood, Buffy/Angel, Harry Potter and The Phantom Menace. No doubt there are other things out there of interest, and the meta discussions, of course. If you have a suggestion, send them in even if you don't want to take the lead in the panel.

Poolside Programming

Not formal, but this is Vegas, and we have a very nice one at the hotel that sees a lot of con action in the evening. There is no curfew on the hours, but noise levels must be low during late hours, and topics need to be kid friendly in those instances where we're not alone. When the bar is serving, drinks at pool side is allowed; they close early -- it's Vegas and you can walk next door to the Tuscanny or Terribles and get them for free if you're gambling, so there's no money in our hotel keeping a bar open into the evening when most of their customers are off elsewhere on The Strip.

After the Con -- Sunday

We've not tried any of the male reviews for a couple of years, so that's always a possibility, or maybe just more pool-side conversations with the majority who hang over until Monday or Tuesday.

Commemorative Zine:

This year's theme is KID FIC! This can include mpreg, the characters we love as kids, them interacting with kids or even just a scene of remembrence from when someone was a kid. If you're going to have KIDSEX, keep it legal (ie: both of them underage or the kid preferably at least of the age of consent if he's with an adult)

Zine contributions need to be submitted by May 31st, please; I've got carpal tunnel that I'm putting off surgery for, and it affects my ability to put the zine together, so I need more time than in the past.

Inquiries and suggestions can be made privately to or publicly through our Yahoo group.

Updates will be posted to the Yahoo group most frequently, and we now have a LiveJournal community and one on Dreamwidth.

Hope to see you there!
